Individual Smoking Cessation Program

A four-week program for people who are thinking about quitting smoking, have quit and have had a slip, or are trying to remain smoke-free. The program is facilitated by Smokers’ Helpline Coordinator Niki George. The program provides tips to those struggling with quitting smoking, along with educational support and materials. Follow-up support to this program is also provided through the Smokers’ Helpline. Programs run for four consecutive Wednesday evenings at the Lung House for a nominal fee of $5 per session. Workplace Smoking Cessation Program

The workplace program is composed of four 1½ hour sessions devised after the individual cessation program. This program is also facilitated by Smokers’ Help Line Director Niki Legge, and is available at a cost of $50 per participant, plus associated travel costs.

This program has been successfully held at a number of workplaces across the province including:
  * The Canadian Coast Guard, MV Sir. Humphrey Gilbert
  * Newfoundland Power, St. John’s
  * Municipal Assessment Agency, St. John’s
  * Metrobus, St. John’s
  * Community of Conne River, Bay D’Espoir

Toll-Free Smokers’ Helpline

A toll-free number, 1-800-363-5864, that smokers, or family members who are concerned for the health of their loved one and themselves, can call and speak to a trained smoking cessation counselor.

PLEASE NOTE: Callers may reach an answering machine upon calling, but are prompted to leave their name, telephone number, and a convenient time for a counselor to return their call.

Hours of Operation

Monday - Thursday 9:00am - 9:00pm
Fridays - 9:00am - 5:00pm
However, the Help Line is in operation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through the answering service. Weekends calls left on the answering machine will be followed up the following Monday. This service is available across Newfoundland and Labrador free-of-charge.
